Things To Do In Las Vegas - Even If You're Under 21
By Jonathon Webster

We all know the law. In order to legally enter a Las Vegas casino, you must be 21 or older. Taking this to heart, many families with children, teenagers, and even young college students shy away from Vegas, keeping it on their "to-do" list until everyone hits that magic age. Don't fall victim to this erroneous way of thinking.

Being underage doesn't mean you or your children can't have a great time Vegas. Blackjack and poker aside, there's an entire universe of unique attractions, delicious restaurants, and unforgettable, world-class accommodations for people of all ages and interests. This article will preview some of the other ways to have fun in Las Vegas that don't involve gambling. The only bad thing about Vegas is that once you realize everything there is to do, you may have a very difficult and frustrating time trying to fit it all into one vacation.

Stage Performances

Stage shows are probably the second thing that come to mind when people think about Las Vegas, after casinos. The city has a ton of them, with a diverse array of styles and themes to choose from. One show that has been wowing audience members for over a decade is the stage rendition of Disney's The Lion King. The show is critically acclaimed and has received several Tony awards for best musical, best costumes, and best choreography. The Las Vegas Review goes so far as to call it the number 1 show in Vegas. I'll leave it to you to confirm or deny that claim, but I will tell you that travelers on TripAdvisor unanimously use words like "terrific, stunning, breathtaking, and amazing" to describe their experiences.

Over at MGM Grand Resort & Casino, a one-of-a-kind experience awaits you at KA by Cirque de Soleil. You can think of KA as being a cross between a circus and a stage show. There's music, lights, fire, and acrobatics--everything you're bound to see at a circus. And then there's a captivating storyline about a pair of royal twins, defending their kingdom, that will keep you on the edge of your seat with suspense.

The most astonishing thing about the show, guests say, is the stage itself. KA cost nearly $220 million to produce. With a price tag that big, you can bet your bottom dollar that the stage props are truly out of this world. Some props are actually nothing more than digital projections, responding perfectly to a stage performer's physical manipulations by way of an advanced motion detection system. You'll have to see it to believe it.

Other popular shows include Blue Man Group and David Copperfield, along with a host of comedies, magic shows, and headliners.

Tours

Tours are a another source of excitement and are a great way explore the Las Vegas area.

As it turns out, Las Vegas is close to two national landmarks--the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. With Grand Adventures Tours, you can visit both in one day. Although the tour is a bit pricey (around $150 per person), numerous benefits make it money well spent. The tour is 15-hours long, you get picked up directly from your hotel, and lunch and a McDonald's breakfast are all included with your ticket. You will also get a lot of individual attention from your knowledgeable tour guides as you walk along the rim of the canyon and later take pictures next to the Hoover Dam. No more than 10 people are allowed in a tour group, so you will have plenty of time to ask questions.

If hiking is not your style, there are tons of other types of tours to choose from. You can take a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon; definitely exciting but more expensive and a lot shorter than a tour with Grand Adventures. If you don't like to do much walking, there are even jeep excursions that will whisk you around the Canyon with no trouble at all.

Rides & Thrills

Las Vegas boasts several unique thrills that you won't find anywhere else. At Stratosphere Tower, there's Sky Jump Las Vegas. After being strapped into a harness, leap from the 108th floor of the Stratosphere Tower and undergo a controlled free fall to the ground below. Be prepared to fly solo, as only 1 person can jump at a time. If anything, enduring this thrill alone only adds to the suspense!

Less than a block away from the Strip is Adventuredome, is the world's largest indoor theme park. The bustling and appropriately named establishment is encased beneath a glass dome covering an area of 5.5 acres. There are over 25 thrills and attractions to choose from, and admission is very cheap compared to what you'll pay at a big name theme park like Disneyland or Six Flags. You have the option of paying for each ride or purchasing an all day pass for under $30.

Have you ever dreamed about driving a Lamborghini? Well stop dreaming and head over to Exotics Racing, where professional drivers are standing by, ready to teach you everything you need to know about high-performance driving. After an informative teaching session, you'll get behind the wheel of a Ferrari (or similar type vehicle) and drive it to the max. Test your skills on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway as you complete between 5 and 20 laps. Starting at $299 for 5 laps, Exotics Racing isn't cheap. But if you're a car lover or racing fanatic, this is a rare opportunity you don't want to miss. You will need to be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license in order to drive. Children can ride along in the passenger seat with a professional race car driver as they bolt around the track. This experience starts at $99.

Museums

The Neon Museum offers a unique opportunity to learn about Las Vegas history and see retired signs that once illuminated the Vegas Strip. Ten well-known signs--including the Hacienda Horse and Aladdin's Lamp-- were refurbished after their retirement and are now on display outside of the museum, 24 hours a day, free of charge. To access the non-restored collection--the Boneyard, as it's called--you will need to make a reservation. For $15, you can tour the three-acre Boneyard and learn about the interesting histories behind many of the signs. Each sign has its own story to tell.

Lastly, at the Luxor Hotel, get up close and personal with real human organs at Bodies--The Exhibition. There are over 250 organs and 13 whole-body specimens on display. You'll have the opportunity to visually compare a healthy lung to a smoker's blackened lung and inspect the shriveled brain of a stroke patient. Along the way, you'll learn interesting tidbits of information about the human body--apparently, one pack of cigarettes can reduce your life by 3 hours and 40 minutes.
